In the spring of 2007, a group of like-minded horsemen representing various natural horsemanship philosophies
formed the Texas Horsemanship Connection in order to provide a venue for organizing natural horsemanship competitions.
After completing three shows that year, the first board of directors decided that a more descriptive name for
the organization was needed and the entire membership voted for the current
name, Natural Horsemanship Association of Texas (NHAT).
NHAT is open to any natural horsemanship enthusiast who desires an opportunity to put his/her principles to
a purpose in a competitive environment. NHAT encourages the ongoing devel
opment of the relationship between the horse and the human through judged events such as competitions and other endorsed activities.
NHAT encourages the well-rounded horse rather than the one-event specialist, thereby de
veloping the all-around horseman. NHAT offers ground skill classes and mounted classes for
exhibitors to showcase their skills. Exhibitors are not
required to participate in all classes.
NHAT subscribes to the following definition of natural horsemanship:
Natural horsemanship is the philosophy of working with horses that involves a wide variety of techniques to
form a partnership between horse and human that closely resembles the relationships that exist between and among horses.
